iApplications I Am Happy to Have

As far as i-tech applications that have become very useful while traveling, I’m going to list a few that actually don’t have a whole lot to do with traveling but that are wonderful to have on the road anyway.

INSTACAST: allows you to download or stream (and organize) all of your podcasts. Wonderful thing to update when you have a good wireless connection and comes in handy when on long bus rides.

BIZCARD SCANNER: You can scan your hostel/guesthouse business card so you don’t have to worry about loosing it in your backpack and you can even translate it if necessary. Great way to keep track of your favorite places!

BUBBLE-POPPING GAME: Though I debated the ethical concerns about showing technology to children who may never have access to technology, that quickly faded when a child who had been crying for hours stopped to pop bubbles rapidly on my iPhone.

LED Light: Sometimes, it's just easier to grab your phone than it is to find your headlamp.

The Economist: Catch up on your news by reading free editors highlights! You can even have it read the articles to you in a neat British accent!

XE Currency Converter: Put in all the countries while you have internet access to give you at least a general idea of what the conversion rate is.

Spending Lite: Good for managing cash. Doesn't have all the currencies in the world but has a good few!

(China Specific)

Pocket Train: GREAT for finding out train times without dishing out money to hostels or travel agents.

Pleco: Actually translates characters and signs for you. Invaluable.
